Sun Cellular, officially known as Digitel Mobile Philippines, Inc., was a mobile telecommunications brand in the Philippines. It was a subsidiary of Digital Telecommunications Philippines (Digitel), which was later acquired by PLDT, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the country. Sun Cellular was launched in September 2001 and became popular for revolutionizing the market by introducing unlimited call and text services in the Philippines, making mobile communication more affordable and accessible.
In 2011, PLDT took ownership of Digitel, including Sun Cellular. By 2020, Sun Cellular services were fully integrated into Smart Communications, another PLDT subsidiary, and by 2022, the Sun Cellular brand was officially retired. Today, all former Sun Cellular users are served under the Smart Communications network, benefiting from its extensive coverage and updated service.
